2015 Pinot Noir, Jeansheep Vineyard, Anderson Valley
Finding the best Pinot Noir grapes in our vineyard is akin to how and where we search first for our babydoll sheep—just by looking for Jeansheep near the trees at the vineyard’s western edge! An ode to the Boontling word for “black sheep,” our first vineyard designate is made fully from this stand-alone lot of clone 667 and is our favorite six barrels (of twenty-six) aged six months longer than the rest. It has a dark, rich morello cherry flavor with a fall spice on the nose and its well-balanced body rolls over the palate like Valley fog. This wine was bottled non-filtré, so every ounce of its Jeansheep character remains uninhibited.
